Answers to common questions — and a real inbox when they aren't enough.

What is Oremus?

A Catholic prayer companion: daily prayer times, intentions, novenas and devotions, the Rosary, the Bible, and courses and quizzes for learning the faith — with memorization built in for anyone who wants a prayer or a verse by heart.

Is it free?

The whole spiritual life is free forever — the prayer catalog, recital, the Bible, the planner, intentions, devotions, and tracking. Paid plans add AI features, voice options, and cohort tools. Every new account starts with 14 days of the Standard plan, no card required.

Does the app replace going to Mass?

No — nothing on a screen replaces being in the pew. Oremus helps you prepare: learn the Mass parts and responses here so you can participate confidently at your parish.

What is the Memoria?

Your treasury of prayers carried by heart. A prayer enters it after three successful recitals from memory — without reading the text — on three separate days across a week. That's what long-term memory research says real retention takes.

What are the crowns?

Larger summits carried by carrying every piece: the Rosary crown means every component prayer and all four mystery sets, individually memorized. Locked crowns show the full path, so you always know what remains.

Which Bible translations do you use?

Two complete Catholic translations: the Catholic Public Domain Version (modern English, translated from the Latin Vulgate) and the Douay-Rheims (the classic English Catholic Bible, Challoner revision). At Mass in the US you'll hear the NABRE, which is licensed differently — the wording differs slightly, the Word doesn't.

What counts as an AI generation or a voice render?

A generation is one AI pass that turns your upload, prompt, or Bible chapter into a course (up to ~50 pages of source). A voice render creates the audio for one prayer in one voice — audio is shared, so anything already created plays free for everyone.

Are my prayers private?

Yes. Personal prayers and intentions are never shown to other users, never sold, and never used to train AI. No person reads them in the ordinary course of running Oremus — automated software screens new text for genuinely harmful content only, and the AI Illuminate feature stores nothing beyond anonymous cost counts. The Privacy page has the full statement.

Can anyone at Oremus read my prayers?

We don't — and we've written down exactly where the line is. Every connection is encrypted (HTTPS), prayers live in a database only the app itself can reach, and the only automated reading is safety screening. Oremus isn't end-to-end encrypted, because features you ask for (audio, Illuminate) need the server to read the text they work on — that's true of nearly every prayer app. Our commitment: we never open, read, or analyze private prayers except when you ask us to on your own account, or when the law compels us. The full walkthrough is on the Privacy page under "Your prayers and intentions."

How do I cancel or manage billing?

Settings → Billing → Manage billing opens the Stripe portal — payment method, invoices, plan changes, and cancellation, no email required. You keep access until the period ends.

Where does the money go?

Every dollar in and out is published on the Plans page: live metered costs, infrastructure, and the surplus split — 70% charity, 25% reserve, 5% founder — with the founder's time contributed free.
